Tesla VIN Specifc Recalls
This recall affects certain model year 2017-2021 Model S and Model X vehicles to correct a software error that changed the calibration values for the electronic power assist steering (EPAS) system that may result in reduced or lost power steering due to forces from external road dynamics
Software version 2022.36.5 and all subsequent releases revert the calibration values for the EPAS resolving the error. The software release that contains the remedy has been deployed over-the-air (OTA) to all affected vehicles
Tesla issued a voluntary recall on certain MY 2012-2023 Model S vehicles that are equipped with Autosteer and were produced between October 5, 2012, and December 7, 2023, and all MY 2016-2023 Model X vehicles, all MY 2017-2023 Model 3 vehicles and all MY 2020-2023 Model Y vehicles that are equipped with Autosteer and were produced through December 7, 2023. In certain circumstances when Autosteer is engaged, the prominence and scope of the feature’s controls may not be sufficient to prevent driver misuse of the SAE Level 2 advanced driver-assistance feature. At no cost to customers, affected vehicles will receive an over-the-air (“OTA”) software remedy. The remedy will incorporate additional controls and alerts to those already existing on affected vehicles to further encourage the driver to adhere to their continuous supervisory responsibility whenever Autosteer is engaged.
Affected vehicles will receive an over-the-air software remedy, which is expected to begin deploying to certain affected vehicles on or shortly after December 12, 2023, with software version 2023.44.30. These include vehicles equipped with an in-cabin camera and Autopilot Hardware 3.0 or Autopilot Hardware 4.0. Remaining affected vehicles, including vehicles equipped with Autopilot Hardware 3.0 but without an in-cabin camera and vehicles equipped with Autopilot Hardware 2.5, Autopilot Hardware 2.0 or Autopilot Hardware 1.0, recall will be incomplete as remedy FW is not yet available and will receive an over-the-air software remedy at a later date. Neither the recall nor its remedy disables Autosteer or features that rely on Autosteer. As mentioned, the remedy will incorporate additional controls and alerts to those already existing on affected vehicles to further encourage the driver to adhere to their continuous driving responsibility whenever Autosteer is engaged, which includes keeping their hands on the steering wheel and paying attention to the roadway.
On affected vehicles, the letter font size of the Brake, Park and Antilock brake system (ABS) visual warning indicators is smaller than 3.2 mm (1/8 inch), as prescribed in FMVSS Nos. 105 and 135.
At no cost to customers, affected vehicles will receive an over-the-air software remedy, which began deploying to certain affected vehicles in late January 2024 with software release 2023.44.30.13. The remedy increases the letter font size of the Brake, Park and Antilock brake system (ABS) visual warning indicators to be not less than 3.2 mm (1/8 inch), as prescribed in FMVSS Nos. 105 and 135. Remaining affected vehicles will receive the same over-the-air software remedy with an upcoming release in early February 2024.
